Alegria Polit is a contemporary artist whose work bridges classical oil painting techniques with a distinctly modern sensibility. Born and raised in Ecuador, her artistic path began at the age of fifteen under the guidance of Scottish painter Isobel Calderwood, who introduced her to the expressive possibilities of watercolor. This early foundation ignited a lifelong devotion to craftsmanship, materiality, and the emotional resonance of color.
At eighteen, Polit moved to Italy, a turning point that shaped her artistic identity. Immersed in the country’s artistic heritage, she studied gold‑leaf gilding, fresco painting, and refined her sculptural practice at the Bottega d’Arte of Mario Pachioli in Florence. Her formal education continued at leading European institutions, including the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan and the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Nancy, where she expanded her visual language and embraced a broader contemporary context.
For sixteen years, Switzerland served as her creative base, hosting numerous exhibitions across Geneva, Zurich, and beyond. Her work has been shown throughout Europe and Latin America, earning recognition such as the Lorenzo il Magnifico Award at the Florence Biennale and, more recently, the Gold Medal “Mayte Spínola” in Madrid.
Now based in Monaco, Polit continues to evolve her practice within her atelier, a space she describes as a sanctuary where creativity flows freely, unbound by time. Recent bodies of work, including “Vibes Beyond the Sea” and her ongoing “My Gold” TV Series, explore themes of luminosity, memory, and the transcendence of lived experience. Her paintings often radiate a sense of harmony and introspection, shaped by decades of technical mastery and a life lived across cultures.
